16 September, 2022 - seeking a person for M-Root managerial position - Jun Murai, WIDE Project Hiro Hotta, JPRS Paul Wilson, APNIC WIDE Project and JPRS seek "M-Root Deployment Manager" (a new position) who will take the management role for the global M-Root DNS anycast deployment. [background] Root DNS enables all Top Level Domains to be accessed from all corners of the world. Root DNS consists of 13 Root servers and M-Root is one of them. WIDE Project is responsible for the M-Root service and operates it jointly with JPRS. In late 2020, WIDE Project and JPRS started collaborative project with APNIC in the deployment of M-Root DNS anycast instances globally focused on AP region. 10+ instances are currently planned to be added to M-Root DNS system annually for several years. The project is endorsed and supported by APNIC Foundation as well, [desired qualifications for the managerial position] To manage the deployment, a manager who has the following capabilities is sought. (1) experience in technical project management (planning and management of tasks, budget control, external negotiation, etc.) (2) experience in system operation, preferably in DNS operation (3) experience in negotiation among organizations, preferably across in different countries (4) capability of trustable collaboration in DNS communities, especially in Root DNS communities (5) capability to explain how the Internet and DNS work in business-oriented as well as technical-oriented manner (6) close collaboration with the operation team located in Tokyo and deployment team distributed in Tokyo and Brisbane (7) professional English skills for (1) to (6) (8) full-time time availability - some portion of the time can be used for professional development to pursue his/her job during his/her first half year of the job term [additional information] (a) JPRS will hire the person under its employment conditions subject to the laws of Japan (b) initial job term will be three years including first 3 months as probation (c) the term may be extended by mutual consultation (d) work space will be provided in JPRS Tokyo office - main work location will be Tokyo at least for the first year (e) supervision and direction will be given by a team consisting of members from WIDE Project, JPRS, and APNIC (f) ongoing reports are directed to a JPRS executive staff who co-represents M-Root operator team (currently Hiro Hotta) (g) JPRS will help the improvement of his/her Japanese skills, if needed (h) special security requirements will be imposed as Root DNS needs ultimate security for the whole Internet (i) depending on the performance and trust shown, the scope of the job may be widened with adjustment of contract conditions (j) office will be taken by 1 April, 2023 - earlier is better [how to apply] Please send your CV to <recruit[at]m-root.net> by 16 October, 2022.
