JPRS received 2015 assessment report from JPNIC regarding the performance in fulfilling the responsibilities as JP Domain Name registry.

On April 1st 2002, "ccTLD Sponsorship Agreement (.jp)[*1]" (hereafter "Sponsorship Agreement") between JPRS and ICANN became effective. Since then, JPRS has fulfilled its responsibilities stipulated in Sponsorship Agreement, such as secure and stable management of .JP name servers.

In parallel with the Sponsorship Agreement, JPRS and JPNIC agreed on "JP Domain Name Management and Administration Transfer Agreement[*2]" (hereafter "Transfer Agreement") on January 31st 2002, in order to transfer the JP Domain Name management from JPNIC to JPRS as of 1st April 2002.

In Transfer Agreement, the responsibilities of JPRS as JP Domain Name Registry are stipulated. At the same time, it is also stipulated that JPNIC is tasked to oversee whether JPRS fulfills the responsibilities and JPRS is not financially bankrupt.

Since the conclusion of Transfer Agreement, JPRS has been assessed the performance regarding its responsibilities by JPNIC. In order to enhance the objectivity of this evaluation process, on March 14th 2013, JPRS entered into "Memorandum for the Transfer of the Management and Administration of the .JP Top Level Domain[*3]" (hereafter "MoU").

According to MoU, JPRS annually reports its performance record regarding its responsibilities stipulated in Transfer Agreement. JPNIC uses the report in the assessment process and reports back the assessment result to JPRS.

On June 16th 2016, JPRS received the report titled "The assessment results on JPRS' responsibilities as well as on the status of JPRS' finance and accounting as defined in the JP Domain Name Management and Administration Transfer Agreement (2015)". This report concludes, as in the past years, that JPRS fulfilled the responsibilities as JP domain name registry set forth in the Transfer Agreement, and also the financial status of JPRS has no defect.
