JPRS Updated the List of Japanese JP Domain Names for Government and Started Registration for Relevant Government Organizations

- To Promote Secure User Environment of Japanese JP Domain Names Representing Government Organizations -

(5 September 2006)

JPRS today published the updated list of Japanese JP domain names reserved for the Japanese government (*1), and started accepting application for registration of the listed domain names by the relevant government organizations.

The purpose of the above measure is to drive further development of the environment where the Internet users can safely enjoy public services through JP domain names.

It strongly supports the implementation of the government's "Secure Japan 2006" (*2) which states that the government organizations shall use JP domain names including the Japanese JP domain names reserved for them by September 2006. So JPRS updated the list in consultation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

In addition, the Microsoft's Internet Explorer(R) 7 is expected to support Japanese JP domain names at the end of this year. Against the backdrop of these movements, it has become the societal demand that the Japanese JP domain names representing the name of the government are registered and used by the relevant authorities.
