ICANN Released Selection Results of .NET Reassignment Bid
On March 28, 2005 (US local time), ICANN released the evaluation results and rankings of proposals for the subsequent .NET registry operator.
The proposal submitted on January 18 by Sentan Registry Services, Inc. (headquarter function in Tokyo, registered in Delaware, USA), a joint venture of NeuLevel and JPRS, was given the second ranking among five candidate organizations.
The top-ranked applicant was the VeriSign which is the incumbent .NET registry, followed by Sentan by a narrow margin.
The highest-scored organization is to negotiate to sign a .NET registry agreement with ICANN within two weeks from today. After VeriSign's signing of .NET agreement, Neulevel and JPRS will wind up Sentan. With experience and techniques gained in developing the .NET proposal, JPRS will focus more on improving services for .JP domain name users.
