JPRS and JPNIC Execute Data Escrow Agreement

On March 29, JPRS entered into a "Data Escrow Agreement" with JPNIC. This agreement is based on the "ccTLD Sponsorship Agreement (.jp) " (executed on February 27, 2002) between JPRS and ICANN, and the "JP Domain Name Management and Administration Transfer Agreement" (executed on January 31, 2002) between JPRS and JPNIC. It stipulates that JPNIC will escrow all registry data regarding JP domain name registration and administration conducted by JPRS (data necessary for operations, such as domain names, registrant information, and registration dates). The purpose of this agreement is to make sure that, if the registry (JPRS) should re-transfer its responsibilities and functions to other organizations, the organizations can start operations without delay, in order to servethe Internet community of Japan. This agreement is effective from April 1st, 2002.
